Stuck in a Rut idea? You may be following stupid rules
Copyright (c) 2009 Valery Satterwhite
Life is a game. Whether you enjoy life or not depends on the rules – their own personal rules of life.
Whether you realize it or not you guide your life, make decisions, based on a set of rules has chosen for himself in early childhood. These rules were based on a misinterpretation or doubt full acceptance of what was seen or heard. A relative with good intentions who tells a child "Do not be silly," as she is about to put the mustard on the cookie dough becomes Rule # 1: I stupid. observation of a teacher that a child is not performing to their potential becomes Rule # 2: I'm good NOT ENOUGH. A warning well-meaning parents 'Do not talk to strangers "becomes Rule # 3: strangers hurt me.
"Any fool can make a rule, and any fool will mind it. "- Henry David Thoreau
The rules have acquired for himself that do not admit that stop you. If you think you are stupid not seek creative challenges that require intelligence. If you think you are not good enough to not be allowed to achieve what you want to accomplish in office. If you think Foreigners can inflict damage can withstand public speaking.
Your inner critic, often stupid, is responsible for these standards. As adopted these rules can change. You can remove the power inside the critics have to shape their choices and opportunities surrounding these rules. You have the power to create new rules!
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can turn in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You're the type who will decide where to go. "- Dr. Seuss
Be aware of patterns of thought and belief of the internal systems (the rules) that make the decisions you make, the direction we take in life. If you find that are negative and unsupportive take note. If, for example, to recognize the "I I'm stupid "state is served by that internal criticism of his own, looking for evidence of a new rule -" I'm smart. "Examine your life and seek experiences which made a decision that benefits you and others. Find examples to the contrary. Create a new, better, the rule to believe in.
"The rule against ending a sentence with a preposition is the kind of nonsense that I will not put. "- Winston Churchill
Project out this exercise in other areas of your life. For example, if you believe that women over age 40 can not get a good role in a movie to see many women over 40 years who are, in fact, get big juicy parts in major films. Meryl Streep, Heather Locklear, Diane Lane, Michelle Pfeiffer, Cindy Crawford, Glenn Close, Ellen Barkin, Marcia Cross, Helen Mirren, Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Keaton, Lauren Graham, Mary-Louise Parker, Frances McDormand, Laura Linney, Dame Judi Dench, Sally Field, Emma Thompson are just some of the many women over 40 who are actively involved and enjoy successful careers in quality.
"Life is like music, it must be composed by ear, feeling and instinct, not by the rule. However, one better than knowing the rules, because they sometimes guide in doubtful cases, though not often. "- Samuel Butler
Critics whisper inside your old set of rules you wrong when you are ready to stretch beyond your current comfort zone. The terrified child works hard to keep within safe even though it is very wrong about what will keep you safe. He fears the change of any kind. Change is not known, so awful. Rely on the power you have within you that is your birthright. I jokingly call this internal resource self-esteem and knowledge in the Wizard inside. If in doubt, ask your assistant what to believe and choose Within done. Changing the rules to change your life!
"We all know that we experience with and within ourselves, our conscience acts spring from our desires and our fears. – Albert Einstein
